Ever felt like your Husky giggled during training sessions? It’s not your imagination! Huskies are clever, spirited, and famously self-reliant. They aren’t inherently “bad”—they’re calculated, you see. Huskies think, before taking action. Sometymes, they decide your requests just don’t merit their effort.
But how can one go about taming a dog who’d rather not be tamed?
The secret isn’t domination or chastisement, I’ll say: It’s respect, it’s constancy, and a bit of incitement. We’ll go through how you’ll embrace your Husky’s distinct character; building a good connection and faithful obedience.
Why are Huskies so Very Stubborn?
Huskies were created, or shall we say, bred, to independently judge while work’n. Making decisions on the route, instead of blindly following any and all commands, was a Husky’s forte.
That means:
They won’t work to please you!
“What is in this for me?” that’s often their thoughts, you know?
They are not, repeat, not “bad”. Instead, they’re programmed to challenge commands.
If you ever attempt to make a Husky submit, well you may encounter conflict. Yet, if you can outwit them, you’ll succeed, for sure!
Step 1: Offer Awesome Rewards
Most Huskies turn their noses up at kibble or plain biscuits, you see. Ya gotta use what they really want!
Consider this:
Tiny cooked chicken pieces
Cheese cut into cubes
Dehydrated liver treats, yup
Squeaky toys for the win
A tug rope for play rewards
Figure out what lights your Husky’s fire—then only use it during training to pump up the value.
Step 2: Training Needs To Be Quick and Entertaining
Huskies, they get bored quick as a flash! Instead of a marathon of training try:
Quick sessions, maybe 3 to 5 minutes
Repeat them 2–3 times daily
One action at a go
Loads of praise and a bit of this and that
Training needs be like a game, not a boring thing!
Step 3: Show ‘Work = Reward’
Huskies, they love their freedom and fun times. Make the most of it!
Here’s how:
“Sit” equals the door opens
“Wait” equals the leash comes out
“Down” gets you the toy thrown
“Touch” gets belly rubs, you betcha!
This helps with impulse control, showing your Husky you are the giver of all the goods.
Step 4: Drop the Repeated Commands
Instead you should:
Say the command just one time
Wait 3–5 seconds, no longer
If there’s no action, reset or try a different method
Reward the correct behavior right away
Be clear and get the timing right over repeating yourself, right?
Step 5: Employ a Long Leash for Solid Recall
Those darn Huskies they seldom come when call… till ya teach recall right.
Get yourself a long leash bout 15–30 feet and do this:
Say yer recall word like Come!
Then…run away from your Husky.
Once they follow you gotta reward ’em greatly!
Keep practicing frequently first somewhere with little distractions
Don’t be chasing them or punish for lateness— that just teaches them avoidance.
Step 6: Control Surroundings for Benefit
If the Husky gets distracted too much set ’em up for victory.
Train either inside or the yard afore going to public parks
Try avoid areas that noisy at start of training.
Utilize leashes gates crates guide their actions
Restrict where they can go at high-distraction spots till ya earned it.
Controlling environment results in fewer failures means faster learning.
Step 7: Project Calm, Confident Vibes
Huskies copy what ya feel. When you’re frustrated nervous or maybe angry— they totally feel it and push against.
So, what to do…
Stay chill and patient.
Utilize a tone that’s friendly and firm.
Body language should be open and confident.
Give a treat for every small win.
Respect makes ‘em cooperate.
Step 8: Forget the Rough Discipline
Punishment ain’t effective on Huskies. It creates:
Fear…
…Avoiding…
Distrust.
That Stubborn stuff.
What to do: change any behavior that isn’t good and you got to reward whatever they do that is good.
Forget what’s avoidable, intercede where necessarie, and give praise were its deserved.
Step 9: Weave Training into Daily Routines
Formal sessions? Skip’em! Embed training right into life.
Request a sit, befor every meal.
Utilize “leave it” during walks.
Practice “stay” as you open the door.
Deploy “go to bed” durring quiet hours.
Repeating in regular setting makes the habits stick, y’know?
Step 10: Consistentcy Is Key – Always
Nothing screws up Husky training quicker than whas inconsistent. if you allow jumping on Tuesday and scold it the day after… your Husky will, most times, ignore both.
Establish definite rules.
Enforce every instance of it.
Make sure everyone living in the home follows the rules too.
Give out rewards often, ‘specially at first.
Predictable action, builds trust and obedience.
Final Word: Stubbornness = Cleverness
Your Husky, they are not being difficult — they are challenging you, see? If you use creative and structured training with respect, that stubborn side shifts to loyalty, attentiveness, plus confidence.
Cause ultimately, a Husky who willingly listen… is so much more powerfull, thain one scared in obedience.
Train with sense. Be patient. Love the wild brilliance that is a Siberian Husky, huh?
